About Kukaru

Heading into fall, the studio is cooler and evenings are longer...

This venture has two creative areas: design in the media-heavy office (with a nifty Mac) and production in the clean and tidy concrete-floored studio. (next to several vintage Vespas).

Paper items are generally made with 30% or more post-consumer recycled paper and reused decorative accents, glue-free when possible. Salvaged materials include cardboard, reclaimed wood and raw fabrics. Packaging is as eco-friendly as possible. Always aim to reduce, reuse and recycle!

As Kukaru moves from being a stationery-only venture, welcoming in the roots of fine art, expect new mediums including painting, printmaking and layered collage.

About Kate Dana Detwiler

After graduating from college with a Bachelor’s Degree in Printmaking and Book Design, I spent several years as a painter, exhibiting in Atlanta, GA galleries including The Arts Exchange and 800 East Contemporary Arts Center. I also took computer courses and worked my way into graphic design, which I have enjoyed doing since 2004.

My obsession with vintage motor scooters began in 2001, when I purchased a 1964 Vespa VNB, which I still own. Over the past seven years, I have attended dozens of scooter rallies and events, which are always so much fun. Since moving to California in 2002, and especially in recent months, I have become obsessed with hummingbirds, crepe myrtles, eating organic food and the beauty of typesetting, new and old.

I believe that the greatest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams*, and these days, I am fortunate to have an abundance of interesting work, good friends and creative wonder in my life.
